Update 4 Gameplay overhaul and improvements

This update focuses on improving the overall gameplay of both the FPS content and campaign strategy content. Consistency and quality between weapon models, their animations, bot AI, vehicle models and driving feel including new animated tracks for tanks have all been improved along with post-process improvements.

This update also includes a large rework to the campaign economy and unit construction. Planets now have limited resources that are gathered using extractors. These extractors can be upgraded to improve their output in either fuel,  science or credits, they can also be moved between planets just like a fleet. Unit construction is now immediate and you select where you want to deploy the unit, I decided to do this as it became frustrating that units would construct on a planet that was in a different location to where you started construction to the nature of them moving each turn. The tech tree has also been simplified,  combining some of the gun unlocks along with adding new techs for extractor upgrades.

A new feature in this update is faction progression. XP is collected from doing nearly anything in the game and is tied to the faction you play as, an example can be getting kills in battles and capturing planets will each reward XP. To go along with this new system Sector leaders have also seen a large re-work as they are now unlocked at specific levels within faction progression. They are also selected at the start of the game and cannot be changed however they now have a much larger effect on gameplay both in their unit buffs and unique battle abilities such as a bombing run, cruise missile strike and explosive annihilator guns.

Fixes:

  • Fixed issue where selecting the super unit would crash the game if the AI gets in it first
  • Fixed lots of issues loading the campaign after completing a battle
  • Fixed issues with  the UI not appearing
  • Lots of miscellaneous bug fixes (I've lost track sorry)
  • Performance improvements on CPU in battles
  • Resolution setting fixes
  • Force Disabled HDR for HDR displays     as it is currently not supported and breaks the visuals (I don't have an HDR monitor, so none of the assets are designed for it)
  • Most objects now use object pooling, this was a large change so there may be some issues however it should reduce stutter when lots of units are spawning in or being blown up
